Welcome New Board Members - Canton Community Foundation

Local Impact Alliance is pleased to announce the appointment of two new board members, Nidhi Puri and Bryan Regner.
They started their new terms from new year.
 
The Local Impact Alliance comprises three Community Foundations, Canton Community Foundation, Community Foundation Of Plymouth, Westland Community Foundation, a Women’s Giving Circle, Giving Hope, Women's Giving Circle, Community programs PORCH which addresses the issues of social isolation and loneliness and Future Fit a talent pipeline for local students and business in community, nonprofit Eagles for Children which raises funds to support local children's charities which benefits disadvantaged children.
 
The Local Impact Alliance was formed to strengthen and promote organized philanthropy in the Western Wayne area, particularly through the promotion and development of local community foundations and nonprofits.

 Nidhi Puri - A Canton resident and is President and CEO of Arbor Corporation. She serves as a member of the Michigan chapters of the Association of the United States Army and Society of American Military Engineers and a founding member of the Northern USA-India Business Council, which is part of the Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Her experience and qualifications are in the fields of Marketing, Development, Business, and Event Planning. She wants to use her skills to make a positive impact in the community.

 Bryan Regner – Resides and owns a successful Edward Jones investment firm in Canton. Bryan has couple of funds Canton Community Foundation. His fund makes multiple grants to the local nonprofits, and he is very involved in the community. His expertise is marketing and finance. His motto – Going from Successful to Significant.

Margaret Dunning Foundation Supports Local Impact Alliance

Mararet Dunning Foundation supports Local Impact Alliance, awards grant to upgrade technology.

Local Impact Alliance is set to upgrade it's software Pearl to more modern state of the art system from Bromellkamp, AkoyaGO.

This transiton would greatly increase data processing and analysing capabilities of staff members. 

It will also give us the tools needed to continue to engage with other nonprofits, grantees, as well as current and potential donors in an efficient and impactful ways.

The Local Impact Alliance supports the community foundations of Canton, Plymouth and Westland; as well at the Giving Hope, Women’s Giving Circle and Eagles for Children and more than 120 individual funds. With nearly $6 million in assets, the mission is simple: Build trusted partnerships to connect resources with community needs.

The Margaret Dunning Foundation was founded by Ms. Dunning in 1997. She was born in 1910 in Redford Township, Michigan, and moved with her mother to Plymouth, Michigan in the 1920s.

Healthy Youth and Healthy Senior Fund Awards Grants

Canton Community Foundation and affiliate of Local Impact Alliance awards grants from Healthy Youth and Healthy Senior Fund.

Since 1989, the Canton Community Foundation has helped to enhance philanthropy in Canton Township and the surrounding communities of Western Wayne County.

In 2000, as a result of a national tobacco settlement, Canton Community Foundation was among 65 community foundations in Michigan to receive an allocation of funds to aid community efforts that support healthy youth and healthy seniors.

Here is the list of Grants awarded to very deserving Non Profits in our Community.

1. Partnership for Arts & Humanities - $2,000 Adaptive Creative Expression. To launch new adaptive arts and movement-based programming at the Village Arts Factory for a youth demographic that has been widely and historically underserved and will benefit from opportunities to explore and build new skills (communication, fine/gross motor, etc.,) while forming important social connections and meaningful ties to the community.

2. Rainbow Connection - $2,000 Special Response for Canton Wish Families. The program will assist wish families who have unexpected financial burdens coinciding with having to care for a child in a critical condition. Along with IMMEDIATE relief in the areas of groceries, gas, car repairs, rent/mortgage, utilities, furniture, clothing, funeral expenses, and other emergent needs.

3. Miracle League of Plymouth - $3,500 Winter Holiday Party an indoor event, fully catered, for all the special needs families (including mothers and all children within those families)

4. New Hope Center for Grief Support- $5,000 New Hope plans to expand School-Based Grief Program in the Plymouth-Canton Community School District. It currently offers the program at the four Plymouth-Canton High Schools (Plymouth, Canton, Salem, and Starkweather). District leadership values New Hope’s program and wants to gradually expand across all the elementary and middle schools (19 schools).

We're proud to support our community's students and their educational endeavors by offering numerous scholarships. Our program includes financial aid opportunities for students of all ages who are at different stages in their educational pursuits, as well as a number of different areas of study.

Our online scholarship application opens in early January and remains open until mid-March.  Scholarships recipients are notified in late April; and funds are sent directly to schools for the fall semester.

Patricia Maurer created this scholarship fund in memory of her son, Jason Russell Maurer. These scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors and those who just completed their freshman year of college and who attend Woodside Bible Church - Troy Campus. This scholarship requires that the applicant attend Woodside Bible Church regularly and have documented community service. Scholarships may be awarded to those attending any college, university or trade school.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Canton Cares Fund, which assists Canton residents in need, including but not limited to, at-risk youth, seniors, those with disabilities, or individuals who are struggling after a natural disaster or significant personal loss. The Canton Cares Fund, part of the Canton Community Foundation since 2018, has distributed over $30,000 to those in need. Funds are raised exclusively from individual and business donations.

WHEN:  Saturday, May 20 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. 

WHERE: Start & Finish at the Summit on the Park 46000 Summit Parkway in Canton

REGISTRATION: $20 per person or $100 per car (5 or more players) Includes a pizza, salad, bread sticks dinner. Registration begins April 1 online at www.localimpactalliance.org

Come up with ideas on how Canton residents can be served. Come up with a presentation, app, website, idea that addresses a particular need of Canton’s citizens. You can envision how your suggestion would benefit their lives in the near future.
For example, can your project address water/air quality issues? Is there something that could help in a post-Covid world? In your write up or video, give us a clear, concise description of your vision. Happy Inventing!

Canton Youth Advisory Council Grant Application

Canton Youth Advisory Council Grant Application

Canton's Youth Advisory Council (YAC) continues to assert itself as an influential group of students that truly make a difference in their community by particpating in service projects, special events, local decision making, and more. The YAC Fund is used to make grants to area nonprofit organizations that support families and youth. YAC solicits grant requests, evaluates the grants, and selects the grantees.

Youth Advisory Council of Canton, MI (YAC) is designed instill philanthropy in the community's youth. Members of Canton's YAC have worked hard over the past year to raise funds to contribute to their endowment fund, and now they would like to return some of those proceeds to their fellow youth by offering mini-grants for youth-driven projects.

These grant opportunities are catered to classroom projects or community youth groups and provide a valuable lesson to those students who participate in the grant application and writing process. Below is an outline of key information for you to share:
▪ Suggested grant request is $100 to $1,000.
▪ Beneficiaries of grant funds must be 19 years or younger.
▪ Program must serve youth in the Plymouth-Canton area.
▪ Each application will be thoroughly reviewed by Canton’s YAC, made up of Canton Community High School students.
▪ All applicants will be notified of the Youth Advisory Council’s decisions.

Applications are due no later than 5:00pm on Friday, March 31, 2023.

In 2000, as a result of a national tobacco settlement, Canton Community Foundation was among 65 community foundations in Michigan to receive an allocation of funds to aid community efforts that support healthy youth and healthy seniors.

Past grants include support for conflict resolution and anti-bullying for youth, exercise for seniors, grief counseling, and work skills development for special needs youth.

These organizations must be 501(c) public charities.
